All-Gals River Trip Insider's Tips

To contact us Click HERE
Last week while in Phoenix and Scottsdale for a fantastic Girls Getaway, I asked one of our hosts, Seth Heald of ARIZONA OUTBACK ADVENTURES for some insider secrets for a great Grand Canyon river trip. Seth, president of AOA is a veteran river runner.

"Do you want to know the REAL advice? Even if it is a bit gross?" he asked.
"Oh, yes, I want it all. Give it to me," I challenged.
"OK then. You are going to be sitting on a plastic seat for seven days. You're going to be wet most of the time," he said alluding to ailments that might affect the bottom side. I think he said get a C-cream. "You might not need it, but if you do, you'll be happy you brought it along."

"I should have written it down," I thought as I perused the huge pharmacy aisle. In preparation for our upcoming river trip, I went into Flagstaff, AZ today to procure "butt balm" and waterproof band-aids."Should I get PreparationH?" I couldn't find any C-cream. Or was it Sea-Cream?
I was hoping that no one would come and ask if I needed help.I finally found Cortisone cream. It was half the price of the H-cream, so that settled it for me.

Band-Aid now makes a clear, WATER BLOCK PLUS bandage. They're supposed to give 100% waterproof protection. I guess we'll find out as we float down the river next week.

Girls Adventure Guide Tip: For extended river trips, bring along cortisone cream for any rash that might appear on your bottom side. It will also work on cracked heels if the sun and water do a number on your feet.

There is still room available on the 9-9-9 All "Girls" river trip. Call Joy or Cheryl at Canyoneers at 928-526-0924.

Girl's Arizona Adventure: Fish Pedicure?

To contact us Click HERE

Adventure girls who love to fish are trying something new this angling season: pedicures done by small, finned friends. Yes, stick your phalanges in the pedicure bath and LIVE fish eat away the dead skin between your toes, around your toenails or on your heels.

You won't be able to angle these fish from your local lake or reservoir. Nope, these tiny fish -- Garra Ruffa to be specific -- are imported from Turkey and look similar to the small fish you would see in your dentist's aquarium. Friendly, kind and persistent dry skin eaters. Yum!

Clients enjoy the relaxing "lip" massage and one adventure girl reported that even her husband commented on her soft feet after a Spa Fish Treatment.

Now we adventure girls have a new meaning to the sign posted "Gone Fishin'" on our office door.

Girls' Adventure Guide tip: In the Phoenix, AZ area, fisher women can get the specialty treatment and an Arizona Adventure all rolled into one at Spa Fish. Check out their monthly pedicure specials at Coupons.

One-day rafting trip in Grand Canyon of the Colorado River.

Most people don't know that a one-day whitewater trip is available in the Grand Canyon. Typically a Grand Canyon River trip is thought of as a seven-to-ten-day adventure available only to the rich and famous. However, the Hualapai Nation has opened access across tribal lands for those who would like to experience the wonder of rafting through the Grand Canyon but don't have the time ... or the moolah.

Hiking at Travertine Falls
The adventure includes ground transportation from the Hualapai Lodge in Peach Springs, Arizona -- located on Historic Route 66, whitewater raft trip to trail head for hike up to Travertine Falls, more rafting, lunch at a sandy beach and a helicopter ride out of the canyon to your connection with ground transportation that takes you back to Peach Springs.
Another girl's adventure! Out of the canyon by whirly bird!
I loved the remote canyon experience -- just look at the attached photos! Rafting available from March October.  Make reservations at www.grandcanyonwest.com/rafting.php

Follow the only road to the bottom of the Grand Canyon on the first leg of the adventure.

The Occupy Movement is still active—but a slow movement for now

To contact us Click HERE

Lately I’ve wondered if Occupy Wichita isreally doing that much compared to other Occupy groups in other cities. So Itook the time to check that out.
What I found was kind of surprising. Wichita hasbeen taking up a case of police brutality. But so is Occupy Oakland. Oakland isa much bigger city than Wichita, and it is known for being one of the mostactive. I do know they have occasional marches in Oakland. For its size, Wichita is doing a lot of the same things that Occupy Oakland is doing.

OccupyOakland is also taking up a Strike Debt initiative aim to leverage the debtcollection system, and they have a BayArea Marxism Conference, Nov. 17. For those who don’t know Wichita, such aconference would be lucky to turn up three people—so that idea is out for now.

“Occupy KC is a movement of citizenswho have come together to reclaim our democracy from the 1% who have hijackedit. We engage in a horizontal, transparent,consensus-based process during our General Assemblies, and you are encouragedto participate.”All the Occupy websitesseem to have a similar goal. Wichita’s Occupy site says;“As we gathertogether in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we mustnot lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all peoplewho feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we areyour allies. As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the humanrace requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protectour rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to theindividuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors;that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, butcorporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and theEarth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determinedby economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which placeprofit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression overequality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is ourright, to let these facts be known.”

And in Occupy Oakland;

We are reclaiming public space to use as a forum for the people to cometogether, meet one another, listen to each other, and build power forourselves. Occupy Oakland is more than just a speak out or a camp out. Thepurpose of our gathering is to plan actions, mobilize real resistance, anddefend ourselves from the economic and physical war that is being waged againstour communities.”
Then there is always theoriginal OccupyWallStreet(New York City);“OccupyWallSt.org is the unofficial de factoonline resource for the growing occupation movement happening on Wall Streetand around the world. We're an affinity group committed to doing technicalsupport work for resistance movements. We're not a subcommittee of the NYCGAnor affiliated with Adbusters, anonymous or any other organization.
Occupy Wall Street is a people-powered movement thatbegan on September 17, 2011 in Liberty Square in Manhattan’s FinancialDistrict, and has spread to over 100 cities in the United States and actions inover 1,500 cities globally. #ows is fighting back against the corrosive powerof major banks and multinational corporations over the democratic process, andthe role of Wall Street in creating an economic collapse that has caused thegreatest recession in generations. The movement is inspired by popular uprisingsin Egypt and Tunisia, and aims to fight back against the richest 1% of peoplethat are writing the rules of an unfair global economy that is foreclosing onour future.
The occupations around the world are being organizedusing a non-binding consensus based collective decision making tool known as a"people's assembly". To learn more about how to use this process toorganize your local community to fight back against social injustice, pleaseread this quickguide on group dynamics in people's assemblies.

What do we stand for?

Here are some documents published in New York thathave been well received by the movement:
  • Principles of Solidarity
  • Declaration of the Occupation
  • Everyone has the Right to Occupy Space, Safely
So for me it is frustrating that it takes so long totake on the 1% directly. I would love to seriously go after the Koch Brothers,in Wichita, if I could get the time, people and resources. But it may take alot more patience to continue with the Occupy Movement. It has survived and itis active in many cities, including Wichita. So we must trod along and patientlydo what we can to bring down the empire of the 1%. -សážិážœ អážុ
